Yuwan is in the southern foothill of Yuntai Mountain, and is an essential part of Mountain of Flowers and Fruits. The landscape in the scenic area is peculiarly beautiful with deep and serene mountain streams and gorges and gorgeous waterfall. In particular, the legendary three Chinese dragons playing in water (Laolong Pond, Erlong Pond and Sanlong Pond) and bed of the third prince of Dragon King, etc. make you feel as if you were in a fairyland. The fall of Laolong Pond waterfall is more than 40m and tourists could feel the waterfall with hands. The waterfalls are spurting over the rock and throwing up shimmering bubbles of spray. Hiding Dragon Cave in the hillside is the genuine water curtain cave. The irregular fantastic rocks encircle the opening of the cave which is veiled by the water curtain. The cave can accommodate more than 20 people. Looking far into the distance at the Rainbow Watch Platform near the cave opening, the tourists can see the spectacular rainbow refracted by Laolong Pond Waterfall.
Yuwan is in the southeast of Yuntai Mountain and about 20 kilometers awy from the downtown. The scenery here is extremely beautiful, featuring waterfalls, cliffs and bizarre rocks. Being natural, pure, simple and precipitous, it is renowned as “Zhangjiajie in Jiangsu” by the tourists.
More than two hundred years ago, Yuwan was merely an island of Yuntai Mountain extending to the sea and occasionally beparked by fish boats. According to Records of Yuntai Mountain written in Ming Dynasty, “Yuwan Dragon Pond” is a scene of “36 famous scenes of Yuntai”; however, it is rarely explored because of the steep road. Recently, with the development of the scenic area, tourists indulge themselves in the enchanting charm of Laolong Pond created by nature.
The principle route to visit Yuwan is “three ponds, one cave and three pools”, i.e. Sanlong Pond, Erlong Pond, Laolong Pond, Hiding Dragon Cave, Lvshui Pool, Qingshui Pool and Huangshui Pool. Among them, Laolong Pond is the most splendid one.
Yuwan is famous for water. Sightseeing in rain will offer you unexpected experience.
